Sewing Fail

So yesterday I was feeling so proud of myself because I finished up a pair of pants that I had been working on for my big kid.  They came out really nice I thought:

But then I had him try them on this morning and the rise was too low!  I was fussing at them while he had them on trying to see if the problem was that the waist was too big or the rise was too low and he got annoyed and took them off and told me he would never wear them even if I did fix them.

I was using Simplicity 5125

  but I forgot that when I originally traced the pattern out I had modified it for adding a separate waistband rather than just the facing that is called for in the pattern.  So I was going along following the pattern instructions and everything seemed fine until he tried them on.  Now I am feeling rather discouraged.  I don't have a lot of time to sew and it is very frustrating when I have to waste time fixing stupid mistakes I made.    

I am going to have to set them aside for a little while before I take a stab at trying to fix them because right now the task seems too daunting.  I think I am going to have to unpick the facing and remove the snap tab that I added and then add on the separate waistband.  The only problem is that one side of the snap is on the pants themselves and when I remove it it will leave a hole.

 I guess I will just sew a little patch over it.

Not only did I mess up these pants, I was trying to sew the same big kid a varsity cowl neck pullover (affiliate link) from Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop using a brown sweatshirt fleece I got from the red tag section at Jo-Ann.  Unfortunately I did not pay sufficient attention to the fact that my fleece has almost no stretch, so when I had him try it on it was a struggle to get it on.  I don't think I can fix that one, so I am just going to hope it is something that the little guy can wear in a couple years.
